Philip Houghton-Brown, Chief Investment Officer

Philip is responsible for the management and performance of the ING investment team. He is also a member of ING’s Senior Management Team. Philip joined ING in 1996 and was responsible for asset allocation, currency and multi-manager research. Prior to joining ING, he had a background of nine years’ experience in the investment industry. From 1991 to 1995, Philip worked at AMP Asset Management in London, where he established the performance analysis team and then became an international equity fund manager. In this role, he shared responsibility for tactical asset allocation, programme trading and derivatives. Philip also spent four years with FPG Research, from 1987 to 1991, where he was responsible for investment manager research. Philip is a CFA charterholder and a Fellow of the Securities and Investment Institute in the UK. He has completed the UK Securities and Investment Institute, IMRO and NZ Society of Investment Analysts examinations.

 
Amanda Smith, Head of Equities

Image not availableAmanda heads the ING Equity Team, where she is responsible for managing New Zealand and Australasian equity portfolios, including the ING Equity Selection Fund. Amanda has over 20 years’ experience, covering both sharebroking and funds management, and has developed a strong performance track record since joining ING in 1997. She has a BA (Economics) from Victoria University, is a member of the Institute of Finance Professionals NZ and sits on the NZ Exchange Asset Management Advisory Board.

 
Graham Ansell, Head of Fixed Interest

Image not availableGraham heads the Fixed Interest Team at ING, with a primary focus on duration and yield curve management. Prior to joining ING in 1996, Graham had 9 years’ investment experience including 8 years at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. After spending 4 years within the Monetary Policy Implementation section of the Reserve Bank, he moved on to the Bank’s Foreign Reserve Management office, spending a further 4 years managing their USD, Yen and DMK fixed interest portfolios.

 
David Jansen, Head of Structured Credit

Image not availableDavid Jansen joined ING as a Senior Investment Manager within ING’s fixed interest team in May 2005. Previously, he was a Portfolio Manager for a boutique fund manager based in Auckland. After graduating from Waikato University in 1987, David joined Banque Indosuez, moving with the company to London in 1991. Subsequent employment with UBK Asset Management in both London and New York involved David heading the firm’s corporate bond investment team. In 1996, he assumed the role of Managing Director Investment Securities for Dilmun Investments based in Connecticut, USA and was responsible for managing non-investment grade corporate bond portfolios and distressed bond portfolios. David also acted as the collateral manager for two high-yield bond CBOs. In his current role with ING, David is involved in the management of fixed interest, cash, and credit securities, with primary focus on all aspects of international credit-risk management.

 
Iain Cox, Portfolio Manager Structured Credit

Image not availableAs part of the Structured Credit team, Iain has direct portfolio management responsibilities for funds within ING’s successful range of innovative income products. He is also a member of the ING Asset Allocation Committee.With over 12 years’ experience in funds management and investment banking, both locally and overseas, Iain has specialist knowledge and experience of the rapidly developing global structured credit markets, CDOs, fixed income securities and derivative products. Formerly a portfolio manager at a privately owned and Auckland-based retail fund manager, Iain has also held roles involving product and operations control for Solomon Bros, Ctitgroup, Barclays Capital and Credit Suisse First Boston, supporting fixed income cash and emerging market and derivative businesses in London and Milan. Iain has a BA (joint Hons) Accountancy and Economics from the University of Manchester.

 
Andrew Michl, Senior Fixed Interest Manager

Image not availableAndrew joined the Wellington-based investment management operation of ANZ in 1992, following eight years’ experience on the fixed interest desks at Westpac and ANZ Treasury. Andrew transferred to Melbourne in 1999 as part of the integration of the New Zealand and Australian investment teams. At ING, Andrew’s role is to analyse, review and manage fixed interest securities within defined risk criteria in order to maximise the risk-adjusted returns of the portfolio. In particular, Andrew’s main area of focus is on high-grade credit..

 
Craig Brown, Senior Investment Analyst

Image not availableCraig is responsible for research in both the equity and listed property sectors. He is also a member of ING’s Asset Allocation Committee. Formerly a principal at an Auckland-based boutique funds management firm, and with 17 years’ experience in the industry, Craig has a broad set of skills that include asset and investment sector research, portfolio management, and strategy. He has specialised in New Zealand and Australian equities, and in the listed property markets. Craig has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Lincoln University and is also a Registered Valuer.

 
Stuart Millar, Investment Manager, Strategy

Image not availableStuart is responsible for asset allocation, currency management and the multi-manager approach to international equities.Previous work experience includes a business analyst role with Alcatel in New Zealand and broad experience in the areas of stock lending and emerging markets with JP Morgan Securities in London. He started at ING in 1998 and joined the investment team as an analyst in 2001. Stuart is a CFA charter holder. He has a Bachelor of Business and Graduate Diploma in Business from the Auckland University of Technology.

 
Alan Clarke, Investment Analyst - Strategy

Image not availableGraduating from the University of Waikato in 1996 with a first class honours Master of Science (Technology), Alan went on to work in capital and funds management in The Netherlands, United Kingdom and New Zealand. Initially joining ING New Zealand as a Wholesale Reporting Analyst in the Finance Division, Alan later joined the Investment team, where he now works across strategy, equities and fixed income. Responsibilities include quantitative and performance analysis of ING’s international equity managers, assisting in currency management, and the management of cash and fixed income portfolios.

 
Stuart Williams, Investment Analyst

Image not availableStuart joined ING as an accountant in 1996. Following a three-year period in the accounting area, Stuart spent six years in the Wholesale and Institutional Funds Management team. During this period he developed a thorough understanding of the ING investment process and client mandate requirements. Prior to joining the Equities team in May 2006, Stuart established the Corporate Secretary function for ING. Stuart researches New Zealand and Australian Companies.

 
Mark Brown, Equity Investment Manager

Image not availableMark joined ING in 2002 as an Investment Analyst in the Equity Team, where he led the development of ING’s in-house research capability, before being promoted to Head of Research in 2005. In 2006, Mark was promoted to Investment Manager, responsible for ING’s Trans-Tasman equity mandates. Prior to joining ING, Mark was Director in charge of the Private Client Investment Team within HSBC Asset Management. He started his career as a financial controller in South Africa, entering the investment management world when he joined Foord Asset Management in 1997 as an equity analyst. Mark graduated in 1985 from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA in 1995. He became a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Charterholder in 1999.

 
Craig Tyson, Equity Investment Manager

Image not availableCraig joined ING in May 2005 with 10 years’ industry experience. In January 2006, he was promoted from Investment Analyst to Investment Manager, assuming responsibility for ING’s specialist property security and infrastructure mandates. Prior to emigrating to New Zealand, Craig spent seven years at Fuji Investment Management in London where he was initially responsible for producing in-depth industry reports for the Portfolio Management team. In 1999, he was promoted to Portfolio Manager, responsible for European equity portfolios. Back in New Zealand, Craig joined Forsyth Barr with responsibility for several high-profile New Zealand companies, including coverage of the property sector.Craig graduated in 1993 from City University (London) with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree. He worked on the London International Financial Futures Exchange (LIFFE) before completing a Masters degree in Investment Management in 1995.

 
Liam Cleary, Assistant Portfolio Manager

Image not availableLiam graduated in 2005 from the University of Auckland, with a Bachelor of Business and Information Management. He joined ING in 2003 as an intern, becoming a full-time member of the ING investment team in August 2005. As Assistant Portfolio Manager, Liam provides support in the areas of cash, fixed interest and credit securities management, with a primary focus on all aspects of international credit risk management..
